Greenpeace activists in oil-covered bathing suits staged a "Black Tide Beach Party" in Montreal on September 12 to tell participants of the World Energy Congress of the urgent need to move beyond dirty, risky oil and develop green energy to combat climate change.

Unjust sentence for the Tokyo Two

The Tokyo Two exposed widespread corruption in Japan's whaling programme – in return, they were handed a one year suspended prison sentence. Despite the harsh punishment, the two anti-whaling activists stood in court as heroes, having successfully put whaling on trial, both in court, and in Japan's national media.

Great Bear Rainforest: Key species of the month

The coastal tailed frog is uniquely adapted to life in the cool, fast-flowing mountain streams of the coastal temperate rainforests. These tiny frogs have reduced lungs and breathe mostly through their grainy-looking skin. They are slow to reproduce and are very sensitive to changes in the conditions in and around their home streams. As such, industrial scale logging is especially of concern in terms of impacts to their habitat.
