Oil Spills: Not a Question of If, but When
The disastrous failure of the Deepwater Horizon drilling platform has left thousands of barrels of oil pouring into the ocean each day. As the struggle for containment continues and cleanup efforts begin, we cannot allow this lesson to be lost on Canada's own energy policy – in the Arctic, the Tar Sands and along our coasts. If left unchecked, the question won’t be if a spill happens, it will be when and how big.

Sweet Success – Strong New Anti-Deforestation Policy from Nestlé
After a two-month campaign by Greenpeace, Nestlé has announced a strong new anti-deforestation policy that will give Indonesia's rainforests, peatlands, and endangered orangutans
a much-needed break. The policy will remove companies linked to deforestation from Nestlé’s supply chain, effectively excluding notorious rainforest destroyer Sinar Mas. We’ll watch Nestlé closely to make sure it puts its policy into practice. In the meantime, thank you for helping make this happen!

The launch of the 10-day tour also coincided with the release of our new report on the export of tar sands oil to Europe.

The Acid Test
As the sea ice vanishes in the Arctic, the marine ecosystem is becoming disrupted. Increasing carbon dioxide levels are changing the chemistry of our oceans, increasing their level of acidity and creating a severe threat to marine life. Our ship, MY Esperanza, and its crew are joining leading scientists to investigate this change - called 'ocean acidification' - as part of our 'Arctic Under Pressure Expedition'.
