Climate change should be the highest priority at the G8 and G20 summits

As the G8 and G20 take over Huntsville and Toronto, Greenpeace is working to let world leaders know climate change must be a priority. While our campaigners take part in panels at the People's Summit, our international executive director, Kumi Naidoo, will be attending the 'People First!' rally on June 26th in Toronto.

The [R]evolution kicks off at the World Cup

World Cup revellers

Greenpeace is advocating our Energy [R]evolution campaign at the grassroots level, using solar panels to power a World Cup public viewing area for the village of Jericho in South Africa. Greenpeace Africa has trained 15 teenagers to install the solar panels, which will be donated to the local school after the event.

Never again: preventing the next disaster

An oil covered bird being cleaned

It's been almost two months since the Gulf oil spill began. While Greenpeace continues to bear witness and keep media focused on this disaster, we are also thinking of what must be done to prevent the next one. It cannot be more clear that we need to stop investing in a broken energy economy and start a clean Energy [R]evolution.

World Oceans Day – 365 days a year

Greenpeace scuba divers demand marine reserves

June 8th was World Oceans Day, but there wasn't much to celebrate. Overfishing of species like bluefin tuna is rife. Increasing carbon dioxide levels are changing the oceans' chemistry. Whales have few safe havens and their defenders are being prosecuted. We're working to change this, the oceans need our help every day.

Great Bear Rainforest key species:
the grizzly bear

A pair of grizzly bear cubs

Of the many animals of the Great Bear Rainforest, the grizzly bear is one of the most iconic, evocative of the wildness and abundance of life found within this special place. Grizzlies require a wide range of habitats, so by protecting grizzly bears an ‘umbrella of protection’ is provided to countless other species in the Great Bear Rainforest.
